IWM Duxford
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

Megashorts, well know for his great Bovington's pictures on Flickr, just posted a set from Duxford:

Mostly planes, but some AFVs too. I am not sure if more shots will be added later on.

I always had the impression Landwarfare Hall over there was dark, so I asked:

Seems even worst than I expected. Crying or Very sad
I would love to hear from others too, I know for sure Trevor has been there.

Oh, it's as black as a witch's cloak!
Very poor lighting, they must be afraid of the tanks' paint fading!

Good to know. Thanks!
This means I will not visit Duxford in the near future as I was planning. I think it could still be possible to take pictures, but it would require a kind of hardware I don't have yet, maybe within 2-3 years I'll get it and give Duxford a try.

It could be a good way to test photos under extreme conditions, maybe even a way to prepare for a visit to Kubinka Smile

The Duxford list is here:

Location ID 3330: Preserved Tanks at Duxford

I struggled with it being dark inside - I bought a better camera soon after, but now after Bovington and other trips I'm looking again for a better camera.

So you too had to use flash inside, right?

Is there any explanation as to why it is so dark in there?

Good question... Especially considering the light in the planes area looks decent

Yes - but it was only a compact camera so I still ended up with a lot of noise in the pictures.

Yes, I can see the level of noise. Even with a reflex and an external flash results would not be that great. More or less up to the level "Megashort" got with his Olympus.

There could be a way to try without flash, maybe with a camera that could stand decent quality at ISO 6400 and some f/1.4 lenses.
Unfortunately, only "prime" (fixed-lenght) lenses are that fast. Making it harder to get a good shot within limited space.
Anyway, I don't have that kind of equipment, maybe within 2-3 years I may get there, but not very soon.
