M60A2 (SN 4666)
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

For all those 'Starship' Troopers out there...

My impression is that this tank is just too bizarre to have succeeded. Too many buttons and dials ...!?

And then theres the loading data plate beneath the 'breech'...

We, as advanced tankers, demand more knobs and switches! It's a "space age" thing. Wink

If you think that's confusing, you should see it when it's open (and right side up...this is ninety degrees off kilter)!

And if anyone thinks a 105 takes some grunt to open manually, try cranking that handle enough times to open/close a few times. Laughing

Why are all views* of the breech shown with the handle folded in the 'operating' position?, IIRC, it folds over 180 degrees to put the handle "ball" part of the handle facing forward and the 'lever' flush with the breech.

*including my own. I mean where's that at....where's that always at?

Does the turret serial match the hull/tank serial?

Doug, I'm not sure I understand your question but this breech handle is in the stowed position for electric breech operation. In the very center of the breech is a keyway that must be engaged for manual operation. The reason for this setup is so the handle doesn't spin around during electric operation (which it will do).

I'm not sure I've seen an A2 with T-142 track????

Kurt

Yes the Hull Data Plate SN, tow eyelet Stamp, Rear Deck Stamp, & Turret SN all match. (SN 4666)

The TC Cupola Data Plate SN is different.

Mark

We did a track swap with a range bound M60A1 several years ago.

The tank was on temp loan from range control in RMP & it had 'new track'. The M60A2's track was trash, so we had a little track party and did the swap.

Massimo
Yes this tank will be going to Ft Benning. It is operational although has critical generator problems which we never got to change, so it hasn't been run in a year or so.

I have driven this particular tank on several occassions in the past.

Its kinda neat to remember the various vehicles I have operated in my time as a museum volunteer, one of the benefits of being associated to this program.

Oh well, it was fun while it lasted.

Regards
Don
