The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

The plan to build a dedicated building to host the reserve collection looks great to me. I quickly scanned the flyver. Quality isn't great, but it's still a 2.5 Mb file. You can see it here and read more details:

I guess Neil will complain the rich will get richer once again Smile

I remember seeing that as a kid, two or three holes in its side (2pdr penetrations?) It was in desert paint at that time. Looked so small sitting near the King Tiger.

Pz II

Massimo

Note that this Panzer II is said to have been produced in May 1942, and it currently carries a "Battle of France" camo, which doesn't fit with the real date of production.

"The Museum’s exhibit was built in May 1942 and shipped to Tunisia in December 1942 where it served with the Reconnaissance Platoon of Panzer Regiment 7, 10th Panzer Division. British forces captured it when the Germans were defeated in Tunisia in May 1943 (official information from the museum)"

Pz III L. I have different good pictures of it, this shot is wide, so has some perspective distortion, but I like its rendering:

Pz IV. This is a very fascinating tank. It started as ausf D, but was updated with many features that make it look almost like a G/H

Panther G. The tank is in running order, but at the time of my visit it was missing some pieces that are being manufactured (info from wardens and workshop chief)

At the time of my visit the Tiger was missing its engine. Most likely it will not be ready for this year Tankfest. Until a few months before, it was in the workshop, but the Museum was forced to schedule a few guided tours a day due to popular request. Now they have the engine in the workshop and the tank on display.

The engine used by this Tiger actually comes from the Museum's Kingtiger (the one on loan from Shrivenham), so it's a Maybach HL230, not a 210.

Here is the Konigstiger who donated his engine:

If I remember correctly this engine was rebuilt by mechanics of the SDKFZ Foundation (now the Weald Foundation) before it went into Tiger 131. Two of the mechanics now work for the Crompton Military Vehicle Collection.
