Finally, public display for part of The Wheatcroft Collectio
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

Just seen a photo on the HMVF boards, there's a second Kettenkrad, a Kubelwaggen & an RSO there too. They weren't on display when I visited.

The restored RSO 01 is there.
The RSO 03 from Wheatcroft is currently in Luxemburg for restoration
And about the third RSO , I am not sure if Wheatcroft still got it

It's situated in the car museum attached to Donnington Park motor racing circuit, next to East Midlands Airport.

Hi,

Now THAT's funny! In the US we have an old joke, supposedly advice given to a police officer for use when accused of wrongdoing..."Deny, deny, deny, make counteraccusations!" I appears that Mr. Wheatcroft and his lawyers (solicitors?) have also heard this.

And you all are now to stop talking about it, because otherwise his lawyers will get you. No more speculations, and don't expect any more information from them. Just stop talking about it. Apparently Mr. Wheatcroft and his legal advisers haven't had much dealing with the internet!

I'm pretty cynical, so this only heightens my suspicion that there might be something he doesn't want to discuss. It seems more defensive in tone than it should be, and makes me wonder what it doesn't say or what they prefer to avoid discussing. I guess a hazard of being a reclusive and secretive collector of historical items is that people fill in the gaps in what you decline to discuss...unlike a certain other California collector.

Boilerplate threat letter (only even less serious as it is not directed to anyone in particular) calculated to mute discussion of a topic the client finds embarrassing or otherwise "inconvenient". If it works, great, it's like a billable half-hour to someone's firm. If not, well, shucks.

Discussion is fine, unsupportable accusations are not. I'm sure all forum members recognize this.

well, everyone should know that the "truth" is always misconstrued, even by people who know the ins and the outs of something. The "truth" is always seen from someone's point of view. That's why we could always specualte about what really happened, or believe what someone said about this, but we (forum members) will never know all the facts that led to this situation. It is easy to accusate people of something, it is more difficult to know and understand what really happened, and why, and we have a tendency to focus on simple things (someone stole something, someone is a bad guy) instead of trying to understand.

Pierre-Olivier makes my point about Wheatcroft not being open about his collection and his activities. By remaining silent and somewhat secretive, he invites speculation that could easily be dispelled by more information than he is willing to provide. I'm not suggesting that Wheatcroft has an obligation to do or reveal anything he doesn't want to, but to forbid speculation about it is both naive and unrealistic. His silence invites commentary by others, informed or not.

I have visited Mr. Wheatcrofts collection and seen many of his vehicles on display at public events. It is great that he is setting the story straight about all these rumors. I have found him to be a gracious and kind host who has done so much for the preservation of history. Having dealt with the US army in the past, I understand his position and hope he holds fast to recovering what he is owed.
