Bovington
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

Centurion Mk I

A quick question about this tank :

should it be considered as a late WW2 prototype, or as a 100% post-war tank?
Quoting Wikipedia : "Manufacture of the Centurion began in January 1945, and six prototypes arrived in Belgium soon after the war in Europe ended in May 1945"

It was a WW2 design, but where do you draw the line between?
An M46 Patton & indeed an M47 are basically a T26 with a few bits changed.

On the September 1945 calendar, between the 2nd and 3rd. Smile

I would say anything that was built before the end of the war or of the same model as those built before the end of the war would be WW II tanks. So, the T26E3 and M26 are, the M26A1, M46, and M47 wouldn't be. Likewise, a Centurion Mk 1 would be WW II, later marks would not.

The line is going to be arbitrary anyway. As for me, I tend to agree with Kurt
