Kradolf, Armeetreff Ostschweiz 2011
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

It's a small meeting, in a nice location, run by very friendly people:
www.armeetreff-ostschweiz.ch/

This year we had G-13 M-78126:

A new entry, an ex-czech BMP-1, arrived in Switzerland a few months ago, coming from UK. That beast smokes a lot! Shocked

Harley-Davidson built about 1000 XA models with horizontally opposed "boxer" engines very much like BMW's. in the period of the second world war around 1942, which they then abandoned. These are quite rare today. Do you have better res photo's, preferably from both sides? The XA's could have springer or hydraglide front ends, but they also had shaft drive. What is throwing me is the tank emblem...at this res, it almost looks like an MG octagon. If I squint, it says H-D, other times MG...I need a better look. Also is there a view of the drive shaft?

The battery placement appears to be correct for an XA. From wartime, there can be several variants of this low production model so I need the "big picture" to be sure. This bike may well be cobbled together from any number of available parts from that era.

I only have two shots. Here you can see them at 1024px, click on "original" for full size:

I was surprised by tank emblem too. It should be "HM3"...

Thanks

That is definitely not a Harley XA, I think it is a Russian Ural or Dnepr or a Chinese Chang-Kiang, all copies of the BMW R75. The XA is actually based on the BMW R12.

The airborne motor is a Cushman Model 53 Airborne Scooter.

First time I see a Cushman Airborne Scooter. Thanks!
The sidecar is quite an enigma...

This bike is definitely a Russian KMZ M72, direct copy of BMW R71 (flathead side valve) while R75 had overhead valve.

Similar but not a Harley-Davidson 1000 XA.

When the Kievskiy Mototsikletniy Zavod (KMZ) phased out the production of the M72 the plants where transeferred to the PRC where this bike was produced as Chang Jiang CJ750.

Grazie per le belle foto Massimo

Thanks a lot Giacomo! I was aware of M72 (have seen it in Full and Sinsheim) but this is the first time I hear about Chang Jiang.

A good selection of pictures taken in Kradolf, both from 2010 and 2001, is here:
