Canadian Leopards in Norway?
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

When Canada announced it was getting out of heavy tanks (2004-5), there wre a few private sales. The head of the army, who became chief of the defence staff, himself a tanker, famously declared they wouldn't be needed on the battlefied anymore. The tanks went on sale, and a few private citizens with permits, passports and cash obviously took their pick on the used tank lot. I didn't know they'd gone to Norway. Other tanks which were too tired were stripped for parts and CARC paitn, then set out as hard targets. Complete ones were stripped, welded and demil'ed for displays. Then in summer 06, the troops realized they needed something heavier than a LAVIII to break down Afghan compound walls, and Canada got back into the tank business with Dutch and German Leo 2's.

You are lucky! We disbanded the tkbats and all the tanks are now stored. I don't know what the intention is with the tanks. I hope they keep them in storage so that we don't have to buy them again when the need arise.. Or at least give one to the army museum..

We (I) visited the tankpark at Kandahar, always nice to talk to other tankers and see Leopards!

Regards

According to my information they were converted to engineer/mine clearing vehicles. Unsure as to which ones.
