Preserved Tanks in Switzerland
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

BTW, with regard to tracking all these vehicles in Brazil, be aware that at least as recently as 2005 or so, there was an individual there that privately owned quite a number of former government Stuarts and other vehicles...

I think you are referring to this:

One of the tank end up in Switzerland:

Details here of the Stuart from Brazil that ended up in Switzerland, most of the photos are by Massimo, others are by the owners via Massimo:

You already have plenty of pictures on this. In case you would like a few more, I saw it in Kradolf again last July:

Feel free to grab the pictures from there as you see fit

As for the Länzlinger collection, the Striker is currently on sale, the Sabre instead can be seen here:

Thanks. Does that Sabre also belong to the Länzlinger Collection? If so I'll add it asap.

Sure, the Sabre belongs to the Länzlinger Collection, together with a BMP-1 and an hal-track. They are all runners

Hello everybody,

Where are the swiss army Amx 13 gone ? We can see a lot of older tanks for example Praga and Hetzer, but the Amx 13 is a rare tank now.

Thanks a lot for your informations.

Most were sold to Singapore, just a few remained in Switzerland.

Among the ones I remember:

- Thun Panzermuseum (outdoor)
- Thun SHP (indorr, runner)
- Full Militarmuseum (runner?)
- Wildegg Militärmuseum (runner?)

There could be a few more, I may be able to dig a list during the weekend (I am away from home)

Thanks a lot for your fast response Massimo. I didn't know that we sold these tanks to Singapore. I have my answer.

Last week a Centurion ARV with destination Switzerland left Sweden.
It was one of the 19 ARV's that Sweden bought from Switzerland in 1988 that now went back on long term loan to the museum in Full Reuenthal.

Chris (Zemsi) has kindly sent me a load of photo's of tanks in Switzerland, many of which we previously didn't have photo's for. I've started by adding the ones for Bure:

Location ID 17970: Waffenplatz, Bure

Chris - many thanks! Please look over the entry for errors and omissions. For example, you can probably correct the locations as they were just my best guesses. To get the lat/longs you could try my Mapping page, starting with 'Bure, Switzerland', then follow the instructions. All your help is much appreciated.

Massimo - you might be interested in the new Pz 68s for your register. No registration numbers, unfortunately.

Hi Trevor

No worries for sending my pics. It's good to see them concentrated "tank by tank".

I just send you the exact locations of the tanks.

Greetings
Chris

I have mixed feelings about those tanks, same for the ballasted Pz 68s used in Thun for tank recovery training. Should we consider them "preserved"? Confused

It's a grey area, but I track tank wrecks including range targets (as do P.-O. and Neil) and I think these Pz 68s can be considered to be more 'preserved' than those wrecks! Plus I suspect it's only a matter of time.
