The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. Hello All,

We have added a MASSIVE gallery of photos (628 Whew!) from Fort Leonard Wood, MO.

The gallery is an exhaustive display of everything listed for FLW in the AFV registry, some interior photos from the museums themselves and a few bonus vehicles as well. It’s fun for the whole family!

Gallery Link:

Teasers:
M4A1 POA-CWS-H5

M67A1

M939 Gun Truck

T-54 with KMT-5 Mine Roller

Enjoy!

Time for a nap..... Smile

Awesome photos!!! Thanks for sharing them. Very much a place I need to visit. It's nice seeing how some of those vehicles have been taken care of after seeing them in 1992 at Ft. McClellan.

Glad to see Grizzly's pictures, I haven't seen many of it so far.
Seems like you use the GH2 to take pictures from above. Have you used some kind of "pole"?

Hello,

I was looking for some rear shots of the M4A1s that are displayed there, and this was hard to find on the internet. I'm really glad to see your pictures, some of them are really helpful !! thanks a lot for sharing.

just a quick note, the M4A1 Sherman labelled as "POA-CWS-H1" in the gallery, with RN 3058833 and turret number 81, is indeed an M42B1E9, according to Neil's USA AFVs register.

Wow, spectacular photos and a spectacular display. It's nice to see that Ft. Leonard Wood takes such great care in preserving and displaying their history.

Thanks for the kind words!

Massimo - Yes, Mrs VB does the high angle shots using a tall monopod. The articulated screen of the GH2 (and G1 prior) comes in VERY handy for the high angle shots. I gave up trying for them with the 50D as it was such a point-and-hope-for-the-best endeavor!

P-O - I wasn't sure how to label the POA-CWS-H1 vs M42B1E9 thing. I made the mistake of going with the museum placard - even though the M4A1 displayed near the WW2 barracks has a placard listing it as an M4A3E8!!

Cheers!

Yes, the articulated screen is a must for that.
What kind of remote control are you using, cable, infra-red, radio?
I use a cable remote myself.

Before I got my Canon with its angled screen I got some pretty good results using my Panasonic with its self-timer. I set it to take 3 shots in sequence (in a 10 second period) and by estimating the direction but with the first shot pointing a bit left, then one straight on, then one a bit right I often found at least one of them was pretty good (if not, rinse and repeat). Of course, since Mrs VB's getting good high shots I'm not suggesting you need to duplicate them - it's just a suggestion for when Mrs VB isn't around and for people who don't have access to a camera with a tilt screen. I think it's worth the effort as I much prefer high shots.
