The original lineup. I saw them perform this in '74 and it was just mesmerizing. Or maybe that was my date, not sure.

But wait there's more! (Fled!!!)

What do you get when you take a Dutch instro surf band, that has absolutely nailed the traditional sound and vibe of the original Southern California scene, and have them cover a song featured in an Italian movie shot in Spain that involves a story centered in the Old West?

I can hear a little Duane Eddy and The Ventures in there, too. If I squint.

"Cool Jerk"

"Cool Jerk" is a popular song written by Donald Storball and originally performed by The Capitols. Released in 1966, it reached the number two position on the American R&B chart and number seven on the pop chart. The backing track for this song was actually recorded (secretly) by the Motown house band The Funk Brothers.

Per one of the Funk Brothers, the song was originally to be called "Pimp Jerk." This was taken from watching neighborhood pimps, who would dance in the clubs, but were too "cool" to do the jerk like regular folks. Their version was subsequently named "the Pimp Jerk." The producer was afraid that a song with the word pimp in the title would be banned or not receive much positive attention, and had the title changed to its current form."

Here's some new school, heard this on XM Radio and was pulled in by the surfy minor chord licks, but found myself digging the lyrics - and it has a Sinatra reference by young'uns, so how cool is that?

Although I'm disappointed with the lack of wheelies, it looks like otherwise they had enough fun making the video.

Someday, this will be the legend of the "Del Quads"....

"Stoopy"...."Tappy"...coincidence? YOU decide....

"To You Sweetheart"

"LOS ANGELES — Ukulele player Bill Tapia, believed to be the oldest performing musician in the world, died on Friday at the age of 103, his official website said.

Honolulu-born Tapia, who played with the likes of Louis Armstrong and Bing Crosby, died in his sleep at his home in Los Angeles, the website said.

Tapia, whose nickname was Tappy, died just six months after releasing his latest album — a live version of his 100th birthday concert celebration — and one month short of what would have been his 104th birthday in January 2012."

The pickers...they always get the hot chicks....

Holy cow, what a story and what a guy. There's a ukelele and mandolin player at work that I have to share this with, if he isn't already aware of it.

My underwear collection bows in humbleness to the greatness of his.

Farewell Tappy, and have a great time playing at the Great Gig in the Sky!
