Hello,

as far as I know, the Arsenalen museum owns at least 3 Sherman tanks :
-one M4A4 Firefly
-one M4(105) or M4A3(105)
-one M4A2(75) built by Fisher, for which I have a particular interest.

Here is what the M4A2 tank should look like :

I would be very interested in getting some information about this tank :

-the serial number (located on the rear tow lugs and either on the front tow lugs, or the sides of the differential cover). It should be a 4-digit number starting by 7 or 8 (7XXX or 8XXX). Here is shown where to look :

-the sequence number, located on the front side of the tank (as show here) :

The Serial Number would be very helpful for researches about the variants in production of the Fisher small hatches M4A2s and the dates when the changes happened.

Correct - 3 Shermans in the collection, but right now only the Firefly on display. M4 no engine. M4A2 has unfortunately a fake gun.

I am on a business trip for a week, but will try to look for the numbers next week.

If anyone can bring some light about the history of these tanks before they came to Sweden we would be most grateful.

Unfortunately, they have all been used as test bed for the development of the S-tank etc so they have had all sorts of brackets etc welded on to the tanks, and then removed again before they went to the former Tank Museum. But during this "restoration" some of the original fittings and ad on armour were also removed.

Mr Karlsson,

I was really hoping to get a reply from you. I'll try to find as much information about this M4A2 and the other Sherman tanks of the museum as possible. At least "production" information would be easy to find (we know that the manufacturer is Fisher, and the Serial Number would fie the date of production). It is highly possible that the M4A2 was first delivered to British troops as Lend Lease.
