Post subject: War memorial in Sicily with 75mm field guns

This is in AciCastello, a few kilometers away from were I was born. It's a war memorial listing all the fallen soldiers of the town. This kind of monuments were very common in Italy after WW I, a bit less after WW II. In a few cases they were build after WW I and then "updated" to list fallen from WW II, Abissinian War and Spanish Civil War.

It has two 75/27 Mod 1911 field guns. This were french design (Deport), very modern at the time but not adopted by the French Army since they already had plenty of 75 mm Mod 1897.

Before WW I, Krupp was selling 75 mm all over the world. The Italian Army adopted a Krupp's design as 75/27 mod 1906 and acquired a few hundreds of it. But after a few years the more modern french design replaced the german one and was build under license in very large quantities during WW I.

Large amount of these field guns served during WW II as well. Many were updated with new wheels to replace the original, designed for horse-drawn.

The two guns here indeed have the updated wheels:

As I said, these were build in large quantities and it's interesting to note that one gun was build by Vickers Terni, a very large factory:

The other gun was build by Franchi Gregorini, in Brescia:

All in all, those little guns are veterans of two world war.

Hi Massimo! Hi Folks!

Nice looking memorial. Does the height have any thing to do with the number of names on it?

Interesting looking cannons.

Thanks for posting these.

No, it's a small town and the list is fairly limited. You can actually see the list at the bottom of the memorial after "AciCastello ai suoi caduti"

It's even more interesting whenever is in full elevation:
