TAM has a spotty safety record with some silly rules.

They once put me out of an emergency row seat because I was not fluent in Portuguese (and my wife, who was, was seated next to me). At the time a >100,000 mile per year flyer on airlines all over the world, I was the best choice to have in that seat.

I've had some interesting approaches while flying TAM. Rolling Eyes
