"New" Ordnance Museum Data Plates #1 German Tanks (updated)
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

19 Panthers ....!?

Guess they were all 'shot up' and eventually disposed of.

I wonder if there is a few 'hulks' lying in wait in the woods on the impact ranges at APG........(!?)

Makes you wonder.....
Regards
Don

Don,
Many years ago I heard rumour that Aberdeen had "buried" numerous Tiger and Panther tanks on Spesutie Island (part of the base that's restricted) under the soil. I never put much merit on these stories, as it makes no sense. Like the infamous "scrap drive" in the early 1950's, the vehicles would be likely had been cut up for scrap metal. Anything would be possible though, I found a lot of interesting items on the M88 ARV ranges in the 1980's (M103 hulls, T48C tanks, M67A1 Flamethrower, M59 APC's etc.) and was helpful in getting the M67A1 off the range to supposedly be restored.
Aberdeen and Edgewood are literally thousands of acres and who knows what may be lurking in forgotten areas! I found the M247, T49, MBT 70 and various other vehicles "behind the fence" in the test areas merely by taking a bus ride on Armed Forces Day shows many years ago. Now, there are no Main Front live fire shows or base tours. Then I got permission and a PR official escort through the areas by writing to then base Commander General Leon Saloman.

Checking against Panzer Profiles:

The PzKpfw II chassis number 200131 does match an Ausf L (Luchs). No Ausf L previously listed in the museum inventory.

There is a PzSpWG II Luchs identified in the 1945 inventory - FMCV99. I would presume destroyed...
