Transcribing 1945 Ordnance Museum Inventory - Help Needed
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

Post subject: Transcribing 1945 Ordnance Museum Inventory - Help Needed

Based on the conversation I had last week I asked around with the Ordnance Museum staff and they were able to locate and send to me scans of the 1945 inventory.

Highlights so far:

FMCV76 "Tank, Heavy, Panther" [Ausf G] On Hand: 14
FMCV93 "Tank, Heavy, PzKpw King Tiger" On Hand: 2 [One of these is the Armor Museum's]
FMCV 111 "Hull, Tank, PzKpw Tiger II" On Hand: 14

I also jumped when I saw "Tank, Panther, PzKw 5, Model F" - but its listed as FMCV184, which is the Ausf A...

Naturally, I'll need some help with correctly identifying some. For example, here's the first one I need help with:

"Gun, 7.5 cm, Pak 39/3 SP on Czech 38/3 chassis (Pz Jager fur 7.5 cm Pak 39/3)"

Thanks,

Neil

"Gun, 7.5 cm, Pak 39/3 SP on Czech 38/3 chassis (Pz Jager fur 7.5 cm Pak 39/3)"

Sounds like Marder but that has a Pak 40 (7.5 cm).

Yeah, it sounds like a Marder III - but the "38/3" "39/3" stuff is throwing me off.

But "Czech 38/3" could be the Czechoslovak 38(t) chassis - ie a Hetzer, which did indeed have a Pak 39 gun...

I'm wondering.....

FMCV 111 "Hull, Tank, PzKpw Tiger II" On Hand: 14

Would this mean 14 Tiger II hulls?? Where the hell did they dissappear to...???

I would assume this volume of German tanks would have shipping manifests, ......somewhere!?

I think its a Marder III as well. The sad thing with metadata is they are never faultless.

Don,
I interpret this to mean 14 hulls (without turrets). I wouldnt be surprised if they pulled them incomplete off a captured production line?

Good luck finding those manifests...

In the case of the museum's Tiger I, it was sent back as scrap at the end of WWII and JB Jarrett saved it from the scrapyard.

I'd guess the hulls were sent to the ranges, shot to high heaven & what was left was recycled as razor blades!

Here's the next item, hoping our Jiri or someone can help with this one:

"Gun, 8 cm, IK 30 Skoda, w/carriage" On Hand: 1

Massimo,
Are you familiar with the designation "Geb H. 2541" [German?] for an M40 da 75/18 75mm field howitzer?

Next mystery:

"Howitzer, 7.5 cm, SP on 3 ton armored half-track."

Okay, a 3-ton half-track should be an SdKfz 11... But armored? They were used as prime movers for 7.5cm howitzers, but an SP?

How about Sd Kfz 250/8 or Sd Kfz 251/9?

Well, Geb H is the abbreviation for Gebirgshaubitze. I can only wonder if that was the designation used by the German occupation forces that used the M40 da 75/18?
