I got an e-mail a few days ago from a distressed Eaton resident.

The Eaton Sherman was removed a couple of weeks ago, sent to Columbia for refurbishment and then will be sent to a Piqua OH armory "or put up for auction" [never heard of the National Guard doing such a thing, unless its for scrap].

The resident says the tank was "was placed there in honor of WWII vets" and was driven to its former location by a local veteran. She is trying to research the history of this particular tank and try to reverse the Ohio National Guard's action.

I advised her that the National Guard will often move display tanks when an armory closes (this one did due to lead paint & asbestos), that she should try the local newspaper archives for history of how/when the tank was put on display, and contact her state house representative, senator, adjutant general, governor, etc.

Anyway, if anyone knows anything about the history of this particular tank let me know!

I'm curious - Are you now well known enough that even non treadheads call you when there are issues with local display tanks?

Yep, every once in a while I get random e-mails due to the AFV register. This is the first one quite like this though.

I live in Piqua, Ohio and I haven't heard anything about the tank coming here, I've been hoping it would since the ONG unit moved from Eaton to here.
I will keep you advised if I hear anything.
