Interesting AMX-13 and AMX-13/M24 relics on Flickr
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

Seen on Flickr:

I see Wikipedia mentions AMX-13 fitted with M24's turrets:
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/...n_variants

It's the first time I see one

here are some pictures :

"chars français" website mentions that :
In order to replace the old M24 Chaffee tanks, the AMX factory do some trials to put the M24 Chaffee turret on the AMX-13 hull. This necessitates a turret ring adapter between the hull and turret. The prototype is tested in 1957 and the army requires 150 vehicles to be tranformed.

These tanks serve in Algeria until 1962, and then are brought back to France, where they serve as driving-school tanks. This requires the main gun to be rermoved and replaced with a windscreen.

This is also the first time I see one of these vehicles in photo. I know another survivor on a firing range nead Draguignan, but I was never able to get any photo of it.

the guy who took the photo told me the exact location, but he asked it not to be revealed on the internet. Any member that is interested in knowing the location can ask me.

I wonder what the purpose was - the AMX-13 gun must have had the better anti-tank capability, but the Chaffee gun might have had better HE capability (more useful in Algeria?).

Considering both guns were of the same caliber and that the M6 gun fired at a much lower velocity thus having thinner walled HE shells, plus a greater variety of ammunition, like WP and canister, making it more useful in the counterinsurgency role where no enemy tanks would be faced.
The added maneuverability in close terrain due to the shorter gun was also an advantage, as was the elimination of the need to pull out of action to refill the autoloader after 12 rounds.
Plus, it was also a way to keep utilizing the M24 even after the hulls (drivetrains) wore out.
