German replicas at MI Airshow
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

Post subject: German replicas at MI Airshow

At this year’s Thunder Over Michigan airshow there were some replicas of German armor.

These photos are from the photographer's page.

Who owns/operates them?

Also - can anyone ID the AFV in this photo?

The "Panther" is one of the T54/5-based replicas. The "Stug" FV432 base?

The second StuG looks a little different from the first, if the twin spare track lengths on the left side are any indication. It could belong to the 9th Reenactment Society. Here is a link to their StuG III page: www.9thsspanzer.com/Va...uGIII.html

The vehicles in the smoke are the two Stug replicas ... not really very accurate repros. The Panther was better. There were also two real Hetzers (ex-G13s, probably), a Kettenkrad, and a Pak 40. U.S. had a couple of Stuarts and a 57mm AT gun. The U.S. won the reenactment battle because 11 P51 Mustangs did the German armor in.

Some of the vehicles did belong to 9th SS Hohenstaufen. Others had 1st SS LAH markings.

The Panther is owned by Northeast Military Vehicle Services. They bought it last year from someone in Hungary. It's for sale for $169,000 on Dave Uhrig's site.

The G13 looks like the Dave Crompton Collection's.
