been out long haul driving around North America and the computer sim widthdrawl symptoms are worse than I anticipated...looking to get a good gaming laptop...narrowed it down to the Dell Insipron XPS Gen 2 or the Alienware Area 51m 7700, will both play COD, UO and COD 2 in widescreen,..?? what are your opions on the best laptop to get for a horny, gamer addicted truck driver.

Not familiar with laptops, but Alienware have a great rep for gaming p.c. rigs.

After my last Dell p.c., I got my sh*t together and built my current rig myself.

well I figured I could give a good report on a laptop for ya',,until you said "gaming rig",,,,I have no idea either which is best as i dont think laptops are really designed for high end games and sims,,one thing I can tell you is make sure it has Centrino mobile in it
,I got my wife a nice new hewlett packard and I know she likes it,,,,is solitaire still considered a game though,,,lol....
I will fully agree though with Shades,,,,my next PC is going to be a top of the line Alienware as I would almost guess that a gamer designed them,,,they seem to be all about the gaming and media and high output category,,,I would suggest Alienware, but then again,,,I tend to just look at the price and go for the most expensive when it comes to hardware,,,so I may not be your best source of info,,,,good luck with the search though,,,,

Hey Hoppa,

What about buildin your own?
If I can do it, anyone can.
Most I knew about it before I tried was re-wiring a plug.

It's dead easy but the big manufacturers don't want you to know coz they take +20% off the top.
The only trick is finding out what's compatable to everything else.
Once you've done that bit the rest is easy.
Took me 3 hours to assemble everything (+ a day and a half to install all the software I run).
It's just electrical lego. Slot it all together and follow the motherboard manual for where everything goes.

You could use the money you save to buy an even sexier graphic card. Or a bigger monitor mebbe?
Think about it.

I've had mine for 18 months and will rebuild next year. I enjoyed it so much, I'll probably even pop some water-cooling in this one just to see it working.

actually my puter I run now is custom built....I cant really take the credit for the assembly ,,,I have my very own personal best buy geek that does all my installs and repairs.....I am kinda getting tired though of constantly adding more hardware though......seems everytime I do there is always that one more added cost of something I did not expect that pops up. the system I run now is.....

tower....un-named but partial transparent with lotsa fancy lights and fans
3gig, P4, winXP
1 gig ram..(motherboard will take up to 4 gigs though)
abit IS7 motherboard
ATI radeon 9600 xt graphics card and sound blaster audigy gamer sound card
Antec 480 power supply
120 gigs of space between 2 hard drives
19" LCD monitor, Logitech 5.1 THX surround


this all seems to work great for me,,,,I have no chop in any of my games and run everything at full graphics

I was looking at the Alienware systems and it seems like they are pretty much as good as it gets,,,I could get more or less same stuff like you say ...cheaper, but damn,,,I sure like the look of the case and having the liquid cooled tower come stock sure is appealing,,,,well,,,time will tell anyways...lately I have been playing hard in Battlefield 2 and my system runs it just fine,,,,as the games get more hardware dependant,,,I will always make sure I try to keep up somewhat ...

I've added a few things to mine just to help run the larger programmes (Photoshop, Flash, etc) and be able to multi-task, but we have similar systems.

For the next one, I'm thinking of swapping some of the manufacturers around and going over to AMD, nVidia, and Linux. Haven't decided on the mobo yet, but it definitely won't be GigaButt again.

and back to the original subject I have no idea on laptops but I know you should be able to get one the will run just about any games you just may need to do some research. Maybe email a few companies and ask their opinion or tell them what you need and see if they have something.

Steveo....I am a polished, refined proffessional, I dont " guzzel" beer...I chug it...lol....been toying with the idea of getting an 2000 watt inverter and putting a tower system in too...the Alienware 51m 7700 is $ 3,000.00 U.S. ...could get a lot of hookers with that...look out Vegas, here I come...!!!!
