Surviving Post-WWII Sherman Tanks
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

Post subject: Surviving Post-WWII Sherman Tanks

Thanks for making this - my particular interest is the M4A3E4s

There has been some changes to the location of the Danish M4A3E4 tanks

The first one labelled "M4A3E4 – Oksbøllejren (Denmark)" with photo by Tonny Andersen has been removed from the open-air museum, cleaned up and repainted. It is now on display in the "Pansermuseum" in Oksbøl. Snr. is 56808

The second one labelled "M4A3E4 – Oksbøllejren (Denmark)" with photo by Claus Bonnesen is no longer located in Denmark. It was exchanged with a German collector. I suspect that it is the same tank as the one labelled "M4A3E4 wreck – Garnisongeschichte Jüterbog Sankt Barbara (Germany)". I can see the spot on the front armour where I cleaned it up to locate the front plate serial number Smile
Snr. is 56892

The third one labelled "M4A3E4 – Holstebro (Denmark)" has been removed from the Jutland Dragoons barracks in Holstebro. It is currently in storage awaiting restauration. snr. is 56797

The fourth one labelled "M4A3E4 – Zeppelin and Garrison Museum, Tønder (Denmark)" is stille there, but the picture shows it in its previous location at the Tønder training grounds.
Snr. is 57644

The fifth one labelled "M4A3E4 – Høvelte Kaserne (Denmark)" may have been moved.Snr. is 57746

The sixth one labelled "M4A3E4 – Antvorskov Kaserne (Denmark)" is still there. Snr. is 57819.

I'll try to dig out some recent photos for you.

thanks for the help !! Would it be possible to get a good walkaround of one of the tanks? I'd like to publish something about these on Sherman Minutia website and I need some close up pictures of the post-WW2 features.

Note that curiously, the M4A3E4 in Høvelte Kaserne has Grizzly tracks and sprockets (a.k.a. canadian dry pin or CDP tracks).

The vehicle in Høvelte was used as molotov target and apparently lost its tracks at some point. It got at new set, the one on the right being, as you say, CDP tracks, most likely from a Danish Army M10. The track on the left is standard Sherman T49 metal tracks. The latter might have come of an M32B1 ARV.
