...and it's never too early to start hoarding.

From wire services , NBC News
"No more Twinkies? Strike may do in Hostess

Hostess Brands - the maker of Twinkies, Wonder Bread and other household-name products - said it would seek this week to liquidate the company unless enough workers stopped striking by the end of the workday on Thursday to allow the company to resume normal operations. "

This is worse than just a threat to Twinkies. Hostess also makes those confectionary delights known as Chocolate HoHo's and Chocolate Ding Dongs!

It's the end of days, people!

Sorta', but the rhetoric will never match this:

"With the sad news today that Hostess is closing came even more sad tidings: America’s favorite golden-hued snack food — the plastic-wrapped cylinder that has inspired everyone from scientists to ghostbusters to photographers to lawyers to the owners of deep-fat fryers — the cake whose sponge is made airy by the laughter of children and whose creme is made silky by the tears of the angels — will be no more. At least in its current, Hostess-hosted form."

Abso-damn-lutely. And they had just fixed their Ding Dongs to be more like the retro Ding Dongs of old....for a while they weren't bothering with the chocolate icing on the bottom, and we all know that Ding Dongs have chocolate icing all the way around. Seems like about a year ago they fixed it and went back to the original design, and I was in heaven. Alas, it seems to have been their swan song now... Crying or Very sad

Chocolate Ding Dongs, tools of the wicked....

Lo, back in the days of yore when I still labored in hospital laboratories, we had a sensitive young man on staff as a phlebotomist whose knees were made wobbly by anything truly funky, like say a slimy green sputum that had to be carried from the floor to the lab. This vintage hospital was equipped with one of those old vacuum tube systems that you sometimes see in old office buildings for the transfer of paperwork between departments. One particularly slow and otherwise boring night, I smashed a Ding Dong into a sterile plastic specimen container with bogus patient info on it and carried it to a nurse confederate on one of the medical floors with "instructions" to tube it down the lab in a few minutes with a request for a "black, tarry stool for ova and parasite" analysis.

A few minutes later, "whooooosh...thunk", down it comes. Dutifully, I open the vacuum capsule and read the request with bespoke young phlebotomist looking on and noted that the white innards, now squished out, resembled a Dulcolax suppository, which renders a specimen invalid for O & P analysis. "Well, only one way to be sure"....off comes the cap, in goes my finger, and onto my tongue goes the white, gooey innards. "Yep, Dulcolax, tell them to recollect." Blood drains from his face, upwards roll the eyes and back into a chair he stumbles, only to be brought back to us by the agency of a snapped ammonia ampule that labs and phlebotomists carry for needle-phobic patients that faint. He started his evening break a bit early that night.

Hospital humor....be afraid, be very afraid. Perhaps in later episodes, I'll describe fun with Crystal Violet stain and grape juice, gas chromatographic grade helium and telephone systems and latex tubing and compressed air, among other forms of jocularity. Wink

Good God O-Mighty. That has to be one of the most horrible, disgusting, gross, twisted, disturbing and unprofessional stories I have ever read on the internet much less even here. I love it!

It tops the story of my Uncle Wayne who - many years ago back in the 70's - brought a small can of Dinty Moore Beef Stew on an airline flight and then about halfway through the flight, asked the flight attendant for an airsick bag. After she pointed out the location of the bag in front of him and compassionately walked away, he opened the can with a small can opener he'd brought along, dumped it in the bag, and waited for her to come by to retrieve it. When she came back, just as she was about to discreetly take it from him he retracted the bag, opened it and looked inside, and said "Hold on, I think that piece right there might still be good" and grabbed a small piece of beef with his a little plastic fork he'd also brought along for the joke, and popped it in his mouth. Then handed the bag over to the suitably-aghast flight attendant.

There's just no call for that kind of behavior in decent, polite society. Which is why Uncle Wayne is sorely missed by the lucky nieces and nephews who listened to his stories.
