Artillery museum at Fort Sill (again!!)
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

The artillery museum at Fort Sill received these vehicles from Aberdeen :

3. US T-92 240mm GMC King Kong
4. US T-97 155mm Self-Propelled Gun, ca. 1955
5. Italian M90/53 90mm Semovente
6. German SdKfz 166 Brummbar
7. German SdKfz 138/1 Ausf M, 15cm SP Grille
8. German Heuschrecke 10.5cm leFH 18/1 L28 Grasshopper
9. German SdKfz 142/2 10.5cm Sturmhaubitze (StuH 42)
10. US M7 105mm HMC early model

Rick's pictures show Grasshopper and Brummbar still in Aberdeen not that long ago:

Were they moved recently?

this is what Gordon Blaker, the curator of the museum, said :

"I would like to inform you about some AFVs moves in the US and ask some questions. The following AFVs have been transferred from Aberdeen Proving Ground to the US Army Artillery Museum, Fort Sill, OK.[...]
I have money to have most of them refurbished and work is underway on numbers 2, 5, 6, 7, 8 with work nearly complete on 5 and 6. I will send you photos as each is completed. "

Mrs VB and I will be in Oklahoma City with the latest tour in April of 2013 and are planning a trip to the Fort Sill museum. Looking forward to seeing the new stuff!

So the move is pretty recent. Excellent news! So far in Ft Sill they took good care of the new arrivals from Aberdeen. I just wish they had more space to keep everything indoor.

Those are the Aberdeen Vehicles, hope they get a decent refurbishment (more than a paint job!) and are eventually moved indoors. Rick

From Gordon Blaker :

"The T-92 is a mess. I have the chassis, gun tube, recuperator and various other large components. I do not have any of the front or side armor. Just reassembling it would be an extremely expensive task, which I don't currently have the money. We are putting our effort and money into the other new SPs on the list."

Wow!! That looks awesome.

That was the Hummel that was at the Patton Museum as part of the original Patton Collection. Its 'twin' went back to Germany years ago. It left Ft Knox in 2010, for Ft Benning. It was then sent to Ft Sill. The 38t munitionspanzer that waspart of theoriginal Patton Collection went directly to Ft Sill in 2010.

Regards
Don

I'm not convinced that any Hummels were painted in "Ambush", but it looks the Dog's!
