I recently bought a bunch of old AFV News off Ebay - keep finding "new" and interesting items in old issues.

Here's an ad placed in the January 1975 issue:

"ATTENTION AFV ASSOCIATION MEMBERS:- Your help is sought in the preparation of a significant volume of AFV history; THE ARMORED FIGHTING VEHICLE DIRECTORY, a complete world-wide index of historical AFVs. Information on AFV Museums, private collections, monuments with AFVs, vintage AFVs still in service, etc. is needed. Locations, AFV inventory, accessibility, admission fees, related displays, etc, are requested. Photos would be appreciated but not a necessity, and their inclusion in the final work cannot be guaranteed now. For further information on this project and contributions, write to R.S. Ficks... Shorewood, Wisc."

Sounds familiar huh?

Anyone know if this ever came to fruition? There were no other mentions of the project through 1981.

well, you and I and everyone working on a register of existing vehicles know how complicated it is to keep track of vehicles in one single country... so a "worldwide register" would be impossible to maintain up-to-date, or will contain numerous errors and mistakes.
