Beaver Gate Display - Camp Dodge, IA Gallery
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

Hello All,

We’ve added a gallery of photos of the display near the Beaver Gate at Camp Dodge, IA.

www.vgbimages.com/AFV-...652_QQLZ29

As I mention in the gallery description, the M4A1E8 Sherman listed for this location in the AFV Registry has been pulled to be repainted and put on display in front of the Iowa Gold Star Museum on Camp Dodge. An M60A3 is displayed in its place at the gate.

I am glad you took pictures of the markings at the back of M47. There is a plate that identify this as a former Italian tank.

It's easy enough to ID a returned Italian M47 with out seeing the plate. The rain gutters on the turret sides. U.S. tanks didn't have them. They were added in Italy.

There are many Italian M47s without the rain gutters. It's an handy feature, but not the ultimate id.

Also Belgian M47s had them, at least the Bovington and Fort Knox ones:

Type ID 1640: Preserved M47s

The rain gutters are a hallmark of the rebuild process which usually happened quite fast after their initial receipt.
