I pulled the trigger today. Will pick up sometime this week (after the weather improves, I make more usable garage space, and they de-stripe the car).

It's been there for almost two years, last of two of about 15 that were ordered two years ago and sat unsold for ages because the dealership had loaded them with every available option to pad their margin (and yes, all the management there was shown the door). So it's now a new, 2012 at $9G discount.

Visual facsimile since stripe removal

Now, if I can just find some sucker in the D.C. area with a Mustang GT who wants to race. I'll be spotting you 600 lb's. Twisted Evil

Without the stripes, it should look like a V6 SXT, until you get close enough for the badges. It has the 900W/18 speaker stereo (which I have yet to hear, but that's 700W and 12 speakers more than I have in my house). I'll have to turn it on at least once, just as a warranty check. Laughing

They also had one automatic left, the 5 speed/select-shift/paddle option Mercedes-based unit (well, all the LX Chryslers are E-class Mercedes based from the now defunct D-C marriage*) but they actually tune the exaust systems different for those (I know, I drove both several times) and the Tremec 6-speed cars are definitely more hooligan-sounding. And you can easily get away with ony using 3 gears in normal shifting anyway. Hooligans-R-Us here at Casa Ascout, so for less money and more cheap thrills, the choice was obvious. I swear they tuned it to sound just like the black Dodge Charger in "Bullitt". I may have to invest in some thick, black hornrimmed glasses just for effect.

*Challengers are shortened LX platforms, known as the "LC", but otherwise the same, just less of it.

We have a decent 1/8 mile strip here in my little burg. If I like how that goes, I may have to go up to Bristol ("Thunder Valley") for hooligan night, aka the "Street Fights". Road trip, Boss?

www.bristoldragway.com...et_fights/

Street Fights presented by ZRock gives anyone a chance to tackle the strip in legendary Thunder Valley. All street-legal vehicles, from muscle cars to minivans and motorcycles, are welcome to compete at Street Fights. The schedule is comprised of 15 Street Fights events, with the season opener scheduled for Saturday, March 30, 2013. The majority of events take place on Thursday evenings, with selected Saturday events in 2013.

Fans at Street Fights will see some of the fastest street cars around go head-to-head during Power Hour to see who is the quickest of the quick. Street Fights is not just about the quickest and the fastest, however, as anyone can bring their own car to challenge the legendary track in Thunder Valley.

Street Fights brings a lot more than just street legal racing to the table. Yes, you can race your buddy, or try to top your last run down Thunder Valley's quarter-mile, but there's much, much more. Each event night serves up fun and exciting promotions, many of which racers and spectators can take home valuable prizes. Come out and join the fun! It is only $5 to watch and just $10 to race your car down the track. Check here for news about the series, including upcoming promotions, opening times and everything else you need to know to get in the groove at Bristol Dragway.

I smell a "mountain dogfight" in our future.

Thank God - I actually came back here after having a panic attack wondering if you'd gotten an auto trans - I knew better but had to check anyway.

What a friggin' cool ride. Black horn-rimmed glasses and leather driving gloves would be wayyy cool, just so you don't pull a Kowalski. Wink

I seriously considered the auto. The "sound check" nixed it.

I mention only in passing that the driving distance from the D.C. area to Bristol is essentially the same as it is from here.

There is an "SRT Driving Experience" track day coming up in VA, but it's booked. I may have to do the one in Englishtown, NJ (home of another well-known track).

I suggest you try to ge a few points ahead on your "honey-do's". Wink

This is undoubtedly one of those American exercises in obscene excess that is completely incomprehensible to the restrained Dutch mentality and defies any rational explanation. Or, as it's often put...."If I have to explain it to you, you woulon't understand." You either embrace the concept of outrageous and irrational excess as a normal exercise of passion, or condemn it as a wastful fools game, either of which might well be true. I wouldn't constest you either way. However, I do note that an awful lot of bleeding edge big bore motorcycles were to be found in the Netherlands so somebody in that country is not all caught up in tripping daintily through the tulips with the least carbon footprint....there may be hope for you yet. Wink

If there's anything missed on there, it will probably be the holster for concealed carry, which I'll add as necessary.

Well I think with some practice and proper break-in that you should manage to get sufficiently less than the stated 14MPG. Although it's a good goal to start out with. Smile

Eh, it's alright... but it's no 68 Mercury Cougar XR7. Wink

Congrats on the new toy Ascout.

A Cougar was definitely on my scope list, and one I was going to inquire about sold before I got the chance.

At the going rate for good classics that interest me, I figured I'd spring for something with a warranty, that every mile doesn't feel like a death by a thousand cuts, and that parts (since my tastes tend to run to the eccentric...which is a way of saying I've seen entirely too many classic Mustangs and Camaros) aren't hard to come by (not in repro). Current Mustang are cool (hey, I had one, right?!) but cramped and, well, numerous...and current Camaros are geared for a.....younger market. I wanted a "gentlemans's musclecar"...looks the part, has a real trunk, is comfortable in normal operation, is not seen on every corner, and....goes like stink. (The model was an old boss's '69 440 Charger with TF that I tuned and had driving priviliges on). Now I'm my boss and I wanted a boss car! (for pretty days, when not driving the Pathfinder).

Will do my best to drive at least one tank's average mpg to single digits. Wink

Yep...and you're in range of the Nurburgring, you lucky devil! You should shinny over...and don't forget to post a lap time!

Here's the stock-est Challenger I could find a video on at the Nordschleife. These are 4100-4200 lb. cars (about 1900 kilos) so hardly svelte going around a track. Definitely not a sports car, but a muscular GT car. Don't know if this is the 425 or 470 H.P. 6.4 version. This is definitely an autostick car, not a 6-sp.

Come to think of it... from Google Earth I see many fine twisty-looking country roads in the Bristol area that could stand some exploration. And really, with the lower back problems I have these days, I find travel on my motorcycle to be far more comfortable than sitting in a bucket seat for long periods....

I think the right and generous thing to do is spot you 300+ horsepower and even more ft-lbs of torque, and bring a Suzuki down there to run. We'd have the same number of gears at least...and I'd offset the carbon footprint of that Mopar of you'rn. Mr. Green

I can relate to lower back issues. Mine is a long list, but it's good for some (really-not-worth-it-to-obtain-but-nonetheless-soothing) prescriptions.

Heating pads (or even better, heated seats) go a long way toward comfort. So does one of those office back support cushions (whine to your HR or saftey department...or just buy one).

I don't think they'll let me handicap you by making you ride two-up on the strip, but I bet we can come to some kind of terms on the lights in the Mustang, Bristol being all sophisticated that way.

And there are some excellent roads in that area, BTW. Wink
