Hey man, where did your other post with the link to the other Association song go to? I was saving that to check it out (I don't get as much time here as I used to)....bummer!

Don't tell me Pat got to you and you deleted it due to the sinful partying-in-the-van reference!!!!! DUDE IT'S OKAY!!!!

You have to pick up your ques faster or priceless material may be deleted. I am merciless with the little people who still have to report to work. Twisted Evil

Ahhhh...the sinful van.*sigh*. Yes, VW camper (did you know that they had AC wiring so you could bring a decent stereo into the vehicle and hook up at anywhere with a 110V outlet?) Add co-eds and contraband and the world holds no limits. I may have lost the thread here.....

SHORT STORY

Back in the day, nobody in the U.S. had heard anything from Elton John as of '71 except "Your song" (All the great stuff on "Tumbleweed Connection" was too long for most radio). So I go off to SEA with "Your Song" and come back to 2-3 great albums. First of which was "11-17-70"*, the A&R recording live session (known to our backwards allies as "17-11-70"). This live session was done with no guitarist, which can be a treat when you can tickle the ivories like E.J. (had a personal experience with this in '82 when he opened live at a concert with "Loves Lies Bleeding" and there was a technical problem that blessed the audience with the piano solo from heaven). Somebody played "11-1770" for me in the barracks and I was stunned.

Take your pick of two great versions of a totally forgotten song (used in an insipid movie) that stands alone a a terrific tune by the Frank Sinatra of our times....he's weird, but he's a bada$$. Great drumming on both, BTW.

"Can I Put You On?" - Studio

"Can I Put You On?" 11-17-70-no guitar

*If you don't know this album, you owe it to yourself to obtain a copy, shortened though the current release is.

Would have been great in the earphones during the "bomber dogfights". Laughing

"Big Iron"

Oh hell yeah Smile

And when you spawn in that B-25, look around, and see no Ascout, you end up wondering where he went and what he's up to....and then as you prowl around looking high and low and peeking in every canyon, it makes you feel pretty much like this.....(usually with the same result)....

grooveshark.com/#!/sea...The+Outlaw

(sorry, no YouTube video of the song, but click on the album cover icon with the scantily clad lady, by the song title, to play....volume is over on the right of the timeline, turn it up!).

And just to be specific, when you're talkin' "Big Iron", is clear we meen El B-25H, que no?

Nice licks on"The Outlaw", what with that Duane Eddy/Ventures twangy gee-tar sound...

BUT, if we're talkin' authentic black hat cowboy badass, there is no substitute for Sr. Francesco Paolo LoVecchio, the fastest gun ever to ride out of Chicago into the badlands of New York and California. And to add to his already considerable cactus cred, he pack "Do-waaaa's" in his vocal section, so don't get all squinty-eyed with me stranger, or you'll find yourself facing ....

...and if you're feelin' ornery, Texas Red and The Ranger say, "Bring it, Sucka"

I'd cross the street to avoid the guy with the two-gun carry, if'n I was you. Word on the trail is that pic predates Robbins' song by five years, the greenhorn tenderfoot.

I don't have an effin' clue WTF is going on here, but it seemed, in a perverse sort of way, worth posting.

I'm counting on tips from squad leadership as how to classify this music and activity (for when perversion and confusion enter the equation, Stoopy is always the first one I turn to for guidance....)

Anyway...ENJOY!

I think two minutes oughta' do it, don't y'all! Shocked

I am typically quite happy to contribute what I can so as to educate and elucidate on any quandaries that my wonderful Sty brethren may have and in this case I can offer:

What in the holy hell kind of freakydeaky internet rabbit hole did you chase down that totally bizarre excrement? Please, oh please, tell me you've discovered StumbleUpon or that it was a totally random page hit or URL typo. Shocked

'Cuz I haven't the foggiest. I'm glad they had a girl there at least, even if she might'a been just a token. I was going to guess it's some kind of bad karaoke night or something but seriously I don't think that even comes close. I mean, dude: that's a gig that not even the Del Quads woulda played. Even for beer! Neutral

I believe the most meaningful clue, although I still don't understand what it could possibly portend, occurs early at 0:09 in the video when the blonde-haired dude that is helping carry something kind of trips/falls in the lower left corner of the video, but strangely also manages to disappear at the same time. Whatever kind of creature can actually transport itself into another plane of (frikkin' creepy) existence in order to escape injury is beyond me....it's a possible sign that forces beyond our comprehension are at play here (given, that was already obvious).....this is kind of like the story about the unfortunate demise of Spinal Tap's first (of many) drummer(s)....as Nigel Tufnel said in his cockney accent: "The authoritays sed, best to, loik, just leave this one unsolved...." Surprised

I need a run a cootie scan on my laptop after watching that one, I tell ya....

Bronie convention, Dude. Male brotherhood of "My Little Pony" fans at convention. Watch for the tell-tale signs of gravitation to this cult in Stoopy Mk. II (though I'm sure your manly guidance will quash any interest in this unhealthy underworld toute de suite.

After watching that, I had to listen to "Hellbound Train" by Savoy Brown in it's entirety and a whole lotta' Bad Company, just to get my manly groove back. I'm still a little shaken up. Shocked

I'm not pointing any fingers, but I'd check for Fr8ycats' prints. Wink

Well, it seems Ricky Skaggs has a memoir out and I'll have to fire up the Amazon account and check it out. Way back when, he guested on several tracks on this classic "Seldom Scene" album, which is one of the crispest bands ever to play bluegrass (and they attracted a lot of "guest" talent because of it). I spent a few years in Kentucky and frequented a number of bluegrass venues as time permitted (some no longer extant). I saw the news item on Skaggs' memoir and looked at Youtube for this great number and lo!...the second comment on the upload was from a JG300 member.

"Old Train"

and there is some awesome pickin' on..

"Appalachian Rain"

Youtube does not do this album justice, I recommend buying a copy and playing on a decent sound system. I have it on vinyl, which is hard to beat, but ya' gotta' do what ya' gotta' do. Wink

Apparently, the Norwegians feel that the classic themes of romance, youthful angst, political protest and just plain partyin' have been exhausted. Thus, they bring us....
