The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

This is exactly what he didn't want! My standpoint is that his family are betraying and selling out his legacy. It would have been one thing if ALL vehicles had been entrusted to someone else. It thought that Mr. Littlefield had set everything up for the preservation of the collection since he sadly had plenty time to prepare?

They should at least have had the decency to set reserves to keep away the scrap dealers

First the small collection in Hubbard Ohio then Littlefield. Did I read somewhere the Collection in Indiana (Ropkey?) is for sale?

Aberdeen closed moved and put in Storage. Ft Knox collection moved (is it in stoarge?)

Is this the end of the publicly accessable Armor museum?

Fred Ropkey passed away so it may well be for sale. I think we are seeing the end of what turned out to be the golden age of public armor displays.

I fear that what you say here...and what Bob said above are both closer to the truth than one cares to admit or even grasp. There will much brave talk about future museums ("send your contributions *here* to make that happen!) but we've seen how museum contributions have been squandered already so for those prepared to be boned twice, good for you. Otherwise, expect donations to be slow to organizations that moved well established collections based largely on serendipity.

Short version: the best pics and documentation has already been recorded by people like the members here, among others. Opportunities for future generations are in serious doubt. That's the best reason yet for members of this and other forums with similar interests to establish strong bonds for the dissemination of images and history, something of marginal interest (apparently) to the services themselves. The tragedy is that should be obvious to anyone interested in this field that we call a "hobby".

Hopefully some of it will come back this side of T'Pond! That Churchill Toad would look good at Bov!, so would that little 2pdr Carrier.

I think we're safe from any of it going to the scrapman.

The short answer to your question is "no".

It's not just the degradation of the hardware but also the knowledge base. Back in May 2013 some people affiliated with MVTF came to the Fly-In at the Livermore airport and spoke nonsense at length to the crowd. One of the spokesman idiots insisted the Tiger 1 was armed with same gun as Panther. Rolling Eyes

Wow! That's something I hadn't heard about. But, it's not too surprising. We had a major influx of new volunteers who really didn't know too much about AFV's. Once we we're told last August about the move, they all disappeared. The only folks who've stuck around are the ones who'd been there as volunteers when our group started in 2010 along with those like myself who'd been regular visitors in the years prior to Jacques' passing.

My mistake, sad nevertheless.
