The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

Should that not be M4A3(Drain Pipe)?

Indeed! You wonder why they bothered with the 'muzzle brake', it would have been much better without.

Could the muzzle brake in fact be the cylindrical blast deflector from the early version of the 90mm fitted to M47/48 series tank?

Costas, it is from a 90mm and seems quite common here in MN. We have many 'A3's here and a few have this feature.

It looks similar an example fitted to one of the M47's at Camp Atterbury.

Interesting, thanks Panamadan.
I can't help wondering why though. Maybe whoever did it thought it was cool...

Well, Dan, it certainly looks better than the 90mm add-ons.
