if i don't type in netwings.org and leave that field blank, and search, shouldn't like it show me a big list of servers

as it is now, i get to the connect screen, with my name and the search field, and unless i type in netwings, nothing at all will come up when i search for servers

Yup! Perfectly normal.....

It's not like CFS3 nor Hyperlobby at all, bra. FS9 online technology comes from older roots, and therefor is more primitive. You have to give it at least an IP address or domain name to look for any servers on first. Or you get nothing.

You could also look at it from a different viewpoint...since it's not 'tied' to one central point (like how CFS3 MP is tied to the mysterious "GameMatch" server, for instance)..it is more flexible and capable of connecting to games anywhere, on internet or private LAN, just so there's a path to a person hosting the game.

Therefor.... perfectly normal to see nuthin' if you gave it nuthin'. GIGO !!

THIS is exactly why, you want to get the program "FSHostSpy"......made by the guys who created FSHost, they WANT you to use it! It'll show you all active FSHost Servers and the IP to use......it's golden, baby!!!

You know, I was gonna put all this in that "Essentials" thread but got sidetracked by downloads........lol!

I think a few other basics are in order...the other fellas can chime inbut here's a few tips:

1. Set your max frame rates to 20 or 22 ...never higher. When you get on a server, frame rates are tied directly with position updates, and you can drag a server down to it's knees big-time. The other players' FPS actually go in the tank. You can tell when someone joins a server and hasn't done this!

2. Also...turn off the animation stuff in the multiplayer options, sucks frames too.

3. Before you connect, always have your plane positioned on a parking ramp or off in the grass....(airborne maybe even)....but never on the runway! Some of the sites out there are full-on into the realism thing, and will yell at ya for blocking the runway!

4. On the same line - some sites,depeding where ya go, are tied directly into ATC simulations that see your plane. Now - not saying anything bad about these ATC guys - but they're obviously into watching a screen instead of flying, and so they will expect you to request permission to taxi, permission to take off, and all that. And you just don't always ask for permission to taxi. They'll wanna know to what runway, departing in what direction, for what destination.....they may even want you to file a flight plan (which is a simple FSHost command, but you get the idea here).

None of the places we fly at do that kinda thing, but you get the idea of the kind of realism options there are out there for ya. The first 3 things there are stuff you want to follow to be a good guest.

There is no list of servers for FS9. If you don't type nothing, you will never see nothing.
