I went through Elkton, MD today saw the M42 had a new paint job. Rick

Note that the original Registration number is shown in photo 220, 12H347.

The reg. number was 4A16621, not sure if they just made it up? Also, new paint hides any form of serial numbers.

Did it hide the numbers on the modification plate all M42s seem to have? I may have some pictures from years ago. My wife is from Elkton but haven't been back up there recently.

Bob, Where's the modification plate located? I go through Elkton occasionally, to get to Lancaster or York, PA to visit family. Can check for the plate in the next few months. Rick

It is usually on the rear hull. I think Left side. It is a sheet metal plate with ID numbers at the top and a series of squares with numbers stamped in. I've always thought that it was a way of tracking modifications to the vehicle. I think M-41s have the plate also. It has been a while since I've actually looked at one so I can't remember the details. I'm pretty sure the Elkton M-42 has one. There is another M-42 in the area. It is at a VFW or American Legion up near Christiana. I took pictures oif it years ago.

Bob, Next time I pass through Elkton, MD will check for the hull plate. I used to work in maintenance near the VFW in Christiana where the other M42 is at. Went by it after my operation this spring at Christiana Hospital. I have photos of that one, still have to find the plate on it too. Rick

Is there an M-42 at the Del NG base nearRehoboth Beach? I seem to remember seeing one as I drove by but never had a chance to see if I could get a closer look

There's a M42 at Bethany Beach DE National Guard base, and a 'copter, both behind fence, but can be seen and photo'd from Route 1.
