Some news about Heintz Barracks, Bastogne
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

Post subject: Some news about Heintz Barracks, Bastogne

Hello,

I visited Heintz Barracks last Friday, there are some news there :
-the collection currently houses the Pullman M4(75) that was displayed at Wiltz. It will probably be cosmetically restored.
-There is an M4 Firefly hull painted in grey (the turret went to Poland). This one was reported as being SN 1604, but the correct serial is 16041, which corresponds with a tank built by Baldwin in October, 1943.
-The M10 Achilles SN 6630, which was formerly displayed at the Mardasson museum is now at Bastogne barracks. It was only on loan to the Mardasson museum, they were not the owners.

I will publish a gallery of what I have seen there soon.

What about visiting, is it open consistently or just on special occasions?

you can visit the place every day except on Monday, but it's only guided tours and it starts at 10 AM, 1 PM and 2 PM. Tours without a guide can be done on December 13-14-15 this year, as the barracks will be fully open to visitors. However, the main building is very dark...

I forgot to say that the Firefly turret that was displayed at Place Saint Pierre, near the Musée en Piconrue, is now stored at Bastogne barracks in the Vehicles Restoration Center.

I was able to leave a group and join another one to be able to take more photos.. simply because they understood that I had a huge interest for the collection.

.

The main buildings are indeed quite dark.

I was there last June and got a guided tour with 2 other people.
We started the tour at 14:00 en ended it at 17:30 Shocked Shocked .
I must say we got a GREAT tour, our guide did a nice job.

It was only pitty that the motorpool was closed and our guide didden't had the key's of it, so i didden't see the Stug.

One other thing to notice, you don't have to pay for this museum ( free of charge).

Cheers

Sander

PS: It was the best guide FREE tour that i have ever hade. Smile Smile
