Arsenalen
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

An interesting story is associated with the display around the Scania 335.
There are info panels and a video documenting the road convoys send to Austria immediately after WW II end in Europe.

More info from Gunnar:

- Gunnar
This truck was one of the trucks in the Swedish relief to Austria 1946.
In febrary 114 trucks with twin axel trailer was sent to Wien in Austria loaded with 330 tons of food and medicine.
And i april the same year 50 more trucks with trailer was sent to Wien.

Fm/31 in Arsenalen.

More info:

- Gunnar
It is a prototype made in mild steel. The gun is made of wood and so is the "armourshield" around it.
The idea behind having both tracks and wheels is to save the tracks and fuel when driving on roads. The idea was brought to Landsverk by its German owner Gute Hoffnungshütte, who had worked on it while they were active in Kazan in USSR.
Like the S-tank strv fm/31 had a reverse driver

The PDF reports two fm/31 in Arsenalen. I wonder if this is really the case or we just have two pictures of the same vehicle?
There is only one on display at the moment and one picture was taken inside the old Museum.
I guess we have to wait for Stefan to answer this question.

Gunnar answered already:

- Gunnar
It is the only manufactured. When it was delivered 1934 it was already out dated. It was used for testing purposes and then as a substitut for a tank during military maneuvers until about 1940.

Strv m/31 - in the PDF there are two different vehicles, one Strv fm/31 and one Strv m/31 - two different vehicles and we have both of them, but at the moment only fm/31 is on display.

The fm/31 is a prototype/test vehicle made of ordinary steel and with both wheels and tracks.

Strv m/31 is the only survivor of the 3 tanks that was produced by Landsverk - L 10

Both fm/31 and m/31 had many new design solutions, m/31 was the first welded tank in the world and first tank with periscopes

The ide was to produce different vehicles for different tasks but using as many components of the same as possible. The same idea with multi role platform that is becoming standard today was invented by Landsverk more than 80 years ago...

A good reason to have a look at your history Smile

Stefan

There is a wide spread missunderstanding that tha Strv m/37 (CKD AH-IV) was built in Sweden under licence from CKD, but that is not correct.
The tanks were bought from CKD and CKD who already had cooperation with Swedish companies decided to assemble the tanks in Sweden. The assembly line was at Jungner factory in Oskarshamn and CKD send Harry Joss, a CKD engineer together with 20 other enginers to Oskarshamn to supervice the production.
Major parts were manufactured by different Swedish companies (contracted by CKD) ie Avesta and Volvo. CKD produced some parts in Prague and these parts were delivered by train.

Strv m/41 (CKD TNH) on the other hand was built under license by Scania, so probably this is the reason why some one started the rumour that all Czech tanks were built under license.

During my visit I mentioned to Stefan that a kind of "Swedish connection" was involved in the sales of Czech tankettes to Ethiopia in 1949.
Here I am reporting what's written on "Praga Export Tankettes" by Vladimir Francev. published by Publications MBI, ISBN 80-86524-08-6.

The Ethiopian Army delegated the newly retired Swedish Colonel Sahlin to represent it during the acceptance trials. It was an excellent choice, because he accepted already in November 1937 in Prague the prototype of the Swedish tankette.

More details can be read from the book

This m/40L is one of only 2 complete vehicles on this side of the Atlantic, the other one is in Bovington Tank museum (the only one running at the moment).

At Arsenalen storage we have a third vehicle, but that one is only an empty shell, former gateguard at Södermanland Regiment. It might become a gateguard at the museum one day.

25 vehicles were sold to Dominican Republic in 1956 where many vehicles still exist today. We made an attempt some years ago to recover one tank back to Sweden, but it turned out to be to complicated so we gave up.
