T1/M6 Heavy tank history.
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

Post subject: T1/M6 Heavy tank history.

Figured I would share this here as well.

Most of it is from the National archives.
Props to Kurt Laughlin for hull drawing plans. (and Mike Canaday for original source)

Drawing plans (1941, T1E2, no turret plans I'm afraid)

Metallurgical Examination of Sections from the Cast Armor Turret M6A2E1. (Had Up to 228.6mm of turret armor. Sadly no reference on exactly where they cut that section from exactly.)

Link to some interesting photos of final drives/transmissions for the M6.

Areas I am looking into for the future to get more info.

SNL-G-118 Vol 1, 2 and 3 were the part books for the M6, M6A1 and T1E1 heavy tanks. Often for other vehicles they have some nice blow up diagrams and sectionals showing details of various parts. (just need to find some copies)

Lt Col Sir Albert Gerald

Stern who was part of the British tank board seems to have a large number of missives related to the T1/M6 as they were interested in it compared to their TOG heavy tank.

I did find the drawing plan number for the T1E2 pilot turret.

Drawing No. Turret E3541

Unfortunately that doesn't do one much good unless you have access to the DoD drawing database.
