The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

The Armata T14. Strange name for a Russian tank and the hull looks like a Leopard 2. An interesting concept, I'm not sure that automatic turrets have been much of a success in the past... www.bbc.com/news/world...e-32478937

I've been wondering when the necessary technology matured sufficiently for the unmanned turret to become a reality.

If you want the crew to be reasonably safe in a tank today, you really need to get them away from the ammo and put them in a nacelle surrounded by heavy armour on all sides.

But only a two-man crew? I'd thought you need commander-gunner-driver for an effective crew, even with an un-manned turret?

It's got a three man crew. Gunner in the middle, TC on the right and driver on the left. That's as much as I can guess from the pictures. _________________ 1/72 and 1/76 scale fanatic.

The Jan-feb 1996 issue of ARMOR has an interesting article pointing out all the issues presented by an unmanned turret. I am certainly no expert, but I would think the rapid advance in miniaturized digital camera technology over the past ten years would do a lot to solve the issue of reduced crew visibility and situational awareness when stuck down in the hull of a unmanned turret vehicle.
