Post subject: Ambri Fly-In

Ambri is an old airport, southern to the alps, pretty close to the Gotthard Pass (plus railway and highway tunnels). It used to be a Swiss Airforce base for decades, being home to De Haviland Vampires and Hawker Hunters. Once the Hunters were retired it was slowly abandoned. The airport currently only host a bunch of civil aircraft.

Up to the late nineties it used to host some cool airshows, the location made them special, since the landing strip is located inside a long alpine valley.
Last year, thanks to a sponsor, a much smaller event was launched, this is not a full fledged airshow, but it gives an opportunity to see some cool historical planes and plenty of civil aircraft.

This year bad weather almost ruined the event, preventing light planes from crossing the Alps. Still I had the opportunity to take pictures of a bunch of interesting subjects.

Not sure if this is a Piaggio P.149 or a Focke-Wulf Fw 149

"Hunters" just look so...right. Not so sure the "West Coast Customs" paint job improves the look any.

This old bird dates back to 1927, and it's still in great shape:
