Peep holes on US display vehicles
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

Post subject: Peep holes on US display vehicles

Does anyone know the exact location of common peep holes on AFVs on display in the US? The vehicles I am reffering to are M4s, Pattons, M114, M114, etc. I see sometimes people manage to get shots of inside the rusty hulks of vehicles on display.

Here is what I know:

Pistol port on M4s (Some came from the factory without them, some came with them welded, some were welded in the field, some were welded before put on display.)

Periscope slot (Generally scopes are removed and a cover placed over the slot. Sometimes that cover is easily removed. Other times it was put on display with the periscope in place and they are stolen leaving the slot open.

Silvio,

Every time we've been able to get interior shots of Shermans it has been a matter of lucking into an open pistol port or missing lower escape hatch or vision slots.

Other vehicles were a matter of climbing around and shoving a camera through an opening of some sort.

We'd find the AFV, take a look and see what we had to work with.

Dontos posted a number of interior photos of vehicles at Ft Knox that he'd literally crawled into. Dodging wasps and critters. Not for everybody..... Smile
