What needs documenting in the USA?
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

You guys are the BEST!!!

Junior contacts, like gate guards and press officers generally find it safer to just say "No" than to risk reprimand by overstepping their authority.

Yeah, like my multiple attempts at AP Hill. Even with prior arrangements, my last attempt several years ago resulted in a wasted two-hour drive and very bad experience. One of the most insignificant, small training bases there is, with the most restrictive access & photography policy - "attempt no entry there" LOL.

one day I wanted to get photos of AFVs in an French army base. As nobody wanted to grant me access, I asked the gate guardian if he could take the photos himself. He did.

VB,

I want to thank you for posting all your fantastic photos. You have allowed me to update a lot of my M60 data over the years with your detailed work and much appreciated Serial and Registration number documentation. Many of these tanks I would never get the chance to see in person.

I know Vermont is not on your list to see but if you do go the Vermont Military Museum has an unusual M48A5 there. She is a 3 support roller model and the only US one I know of. Based on pictures I've seen I believe she was one of the original M48A3 pilots and was eventually rebuilt and sent for line duty. Vermont is way out of my traveling circle. If you do go, there are specific areas to look at to ID her properly.

I do not know where you currently are but if you are going to be near NJ next weekend, there is a large military vehicle show. We will have our one of M901A1s and a M113 Lynx at the show. If you can make it I'll give you a tour inside and out.

If you ever are in the Florala, Al area, there's a collection called the World War II Military Vehicle Federation Museum, N31 01.469 W 086 21.330.
I have 3 vehicles at the register, but Google Earth shows more of them there.

Michel

Thanks for suggestions and kind words gents!

JoeD - I'll put the Vermont museum on the list. We need to arrange to do the Wright Museum in New Hampshire when it's open so we'll add that M48A5 in Vermont to the New England to-do list.

Silvio - Thanks, but the weekends are spent working while on tour. I'll let you know if we are going to be in the NJ area and we can get together hopefully at that point.

Michel - I'll add that location to future plans.

Kurt - Is there an Artillery Register? I know Armyjunk has his own listings, but is there a single organized reference document?

Thanks for the offer Vagabond, but my visits to the Socialist Republic of New Jersey are few and far between.

Struck out on getting access to Collings Foundation HQ in Stow. They aren't setup for individual access except during their open houses or scheduled events. Bummer.

Paul and Loren, Nice try. Thanks. Ft. Indiantown Gap, PA I called PAO there to see if they'd let me into compound there, no dice. They said "press or media only", yet if you follow them on facebook, all vehicles are shown there anyway. I also asked her if they'll be having an open house show soon "not 2017, maybe 2018". Rick

See if one of the military vehicle magazines, Military Vehicles Magazine for example, will take an article on the display there, that will solve your press problem.

Sorry to hear that Vagabond.

Wright Museum = X
Collings Foundation = X.

I thought we are friendlier than that here in NE.

BTW, Vagabond, have you thought of putting together any articles for Supply Line or Army Motors? A lot of your musuem visits I bet would be popular, especially behind the scenes at Fort Sill.

One place you could try to get into would be Fort Benning/NACM. You could try to contact them on there FB page and see what happens. If you say you are professional photographers and have a popular website loaded with AFV photos across the country, you might get somewhere.

Good Luck!
