I am no expert on panzers, but is that a Ausf G chassis with an Ausf A turret?

Looking at the different Sherman hulls, were the crew any safer in a cast hull like the M4A1 or the welded types? Or was it purely to do with ease of manufacture? Somehow, and without any deep knowledge of ballistics, the cast hull looks stronger.
