Elefant to the UK?
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

Pzkpfw-e, Tiger 712 went to Germany 30 years for their musuem and it came back in worse condition than when it left. It went over intact, came back in pieces.

When the Tiger was at the Museum in Munster, it was certainly in much better condition than at APG and looked quite complete. Are you sure it wasn't the British middleman who took it apart?

Anyway, they should send the Ferdinand to Germany permanently so it could be restored, properly cared for and exhibet - the US is obviously not capable of doing that despite the efforts of the volunteers at various institutions.

Yes Claus, Wheatcroft dismantled the Tiger I. The deal was for him to get it from the Germans and measure/copy parts for his Tiger and then return it when finished.

Oh well, at least I was there and able to document the day they moved it from the railhead at Aberdeen to finally begin its refurb. The way loans from the U.S. Army go I'll probably never see it again

Saw the Elephant heading north on 95 couple days ago just south of Washington, most likely heading to Baltimore to ship out

I don't see what all the fuss is about. If it was being taken from public display and sent to another museum than I could understand it but it isn't. It's going from a inaccessible storage facility to an internationally acclaimed museum to be seen by 10,000s. After the period of loan is over it goes back, or at least it goes wherever the US owners want it to go.

What everyone in the US is worried about it is it coming back, and allocated funding to do so. The thinking is if there is no funding for it to come back, it is stuck over there.

But why the worry? Now, you will have the opportunity to travel to England and see the APG Elefant. Would you really rather have it sitting in warehouse somewhere in the US where no one can see it just because it belongs to the US....?

Seems a bit like Gollum: "My Precious......." Smile

I agree. The ownership is clear and undisputable, even if return shipping might be delayed for whatever reason.
