Real reflection texture (ENVMAP)

Images related to this file:
available at www.avsim.com

File Description:
This is a brand new environment mapping texture set for aircraft.
It will give you that new shine and reflective apperance that is as close to the real as it gets....
In other words, this you MUST see and experience for your self.
No words can describe it.

Filename: reflections.zip
Author: Tom Knudsen
Size: 571kb

available at www.avsim.com

give it a go and make shure to back up your original envmap.bmp

you'll be pleasantly surprised by all them shiny aircraft and window reflections.
IMHO I think this is a very fine addition to fs9.

enjoy !

There's NO DOUBT this really glossens things up. One thing the readme doesn't tell you to do is to first back up your original "envmap.bmp" file before overwriting - the author just says to go ahead and overwrite it (hate that!).

I mention this because it may not be for everybody - specifically, when flying in some VC's you'll also get reflections off the inside of the canopy. In a plane with a nuce big bubble canopy (like theChristen Eagle, pictured below) you'll get a lot of cool "mirrored haze reflection" effects which are very realistic, but nonetheless somewhat distracting. In the picture below, just imagine the reflections in the canopy constantly moving about slowly:

Okay, final verdict - I LIKE IT!!!!

Switched to the "alternate" mellower effect and am real happy! Check out the cowls on the Bare-Metal Howard 500..this baby's got some righteous show-chrome on her now!

The bare-aluminum P-39 looks great too....and you have to see the refelctions in motion to appreciate the effect.....

Check out the reflections on the wing of the ol' classic Globe Swift......

Yep! I got the same impressions!! Great file for sure!

Two things I noticed that I didn't notice before the file substitution. The waves crashing on the beach look blocky and the prop view from single engine aircraft looks 'odd' when viewed from the inside, anyone else notice this? I didn't try the lower res substitute, but after seeing your pics Stoop, I think I'm going to..

The aircraft reflections are outstanding and while I didn't try it yet, was thinking the bare metal aircraft should really 'shine'..( PUNS..:D) and...it does. Thanks for the pics Stoopy!

I replaced the envap file with the envap_alternative file and the results are better IMO. The reflections look more real and the polished aluminum of any model looks like polished chrome. Did you look hard at the Howard Bare Metal pic that Stoopy posted? Notice the reflection of the engine cowling, prop and prop spinner reflection on the port side?

No noticeable hit on frames were noticed either. Wink

A definite MUST have file for sure.

I don't suppose there is any way to make this file work only on some aircraft, is there? I love the way it looks on the bare aircraft, but I absolutly loathe the look on painted aircraft. I'd lvoe to have the best of both worlds, if possible.

Sorry to say ExcalibuR that the envmap affects all aircraft........... so unless someone redoes all the metal ones so that you don't need tha adapted envmap you'll have to do a trade off...... or keep the original envmap in another folder and when you plan on flying "painted" aircraft swap 'm before .............. just a tought
