Let the good times roll! Canadair "Dynatrack"...
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

Well, somebody's gotta' start, right? Let's get going with Russ's "darling" Dynatrac (aka: XM-571 in U.S. Army guise). Who knows when Russ will get his manual (well, I'm shooting for next week) but I already scanned it. Here are some teaser shots. Don't you just love the way the helicopters are "stylized" so as not to promote a competitors' products?

and this is the version I'd love to have....just so darn....cute...(well, in a manly sort of way....)

I'd love more information on this - for modeling! Smile

Jim,
I have the whole of the 20 page brochure from 1963 scanned, if you PM me an email, I'll send you manageable (downsized) scans that my email won't choke on. Or, if you're not in a big hurry, I'll probably be posting the best pages on it here over the next few days/weeks.

Can you recieve and open a zip file?

Meanwhile, have a quick look here:

P.S.
Jim...I had a look at your website and noticed your "Eve of Destruction" model under construction. Presumably based on the one at Ft. Eustis. Do you know James Lyles ,or of him? I think he'd be a valuable contact for you. He's done an "EOD" model also, and was an NCOIC on a guntruck in RVN. I was pleased to contribute a couple of pics for his book "The Hard Ride".

You do nice work!

Guys,
These are big images and I won't be able to leave 'em up in my Photobucket account indefinitely. Make a point of downloading 'em while you can if you're interested...

I thought we couldn't post pictures to the forum, but perhaps I was wrong. Here is a try to post a US Army photo of the XM571E1 in Vietnam.

Success! Great pic, too. I never saw or heard of these over there, at the time. Something between a "mule" and a "mutt", with tracks!

Thanks Doug! Yes - I know James Lyles and I recognize your name from "The Hard Ride" too. James put my model of "Nancy" in Volume I. I only have a pre-printing version of Volume II - it's incomplete, so I don't know if any models appear in this volume. I sleep with the book under my pillow... Smile

We began speaking several years ago when he wanted to know about my M54 conversions. I've probably done a dozen over the years - here's the last one I've done on commission. I apologize in advance if the photos are too big for the Forum format...

Ahhh...so that's your "Nancy" in the book! Did you know "Nancy" also appears (in less than sterling detail) in the EA game, "Battlefield Vietnam"?

Your pics are fine...we're both pushing the limit at 1000 pixels. Wink

I got your PM, and I'm posting more Dynatrac's above in a moment (amending earlier post). Not all the brochure is high detail pics..some just text. For model building purposes, I think you can get what detail is available from what I will post here...download soon though, my Photobucket account won't stand leaving these in there forever. I'll send you the text page with the specs of the vehicle via email...it might be useful in your build.

Mighty nice work you do there. Give my regards to James (even better, have him join us!).

Dave That cool. I had seen a couple of photos of that vehicle in Vietnam many moons ago.

I guess you have a flair for obscure little tracked vehicles... Wink

And to bring things full circle, the Canadian Armed forces have used the BV 206 since the 1980's, with 78 still being listed as in the inventory.

I guess the Swedes just build better Tundra Buggies than we do.....
