Humbrol identity crisis...
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

Post subject: Humbrol identity crisis...

Hi Guys-
Remember when I said I was having problems identifying all the different names and codes Humbrol has used over the years as in co-relating one name/code to another? Can you believe this? Paint number 33 has also appeared under all these other identifying names/codes:
HB10, HM11, HN6, HU12, MC14, SW3 and one other I did not bother to cut and paste. Do you know what number 33 is? BLACK!!!!!!!!!! Black is not even considered to be a colour! Why would Humbrol even so much as bother with so many different names/codes? Okay, I realize this is not a question of any serious importance. But hey, when your trying to figure out colour codes, it would be nice if the manufacturer was not some crazed commie pinko agitator!!!
Bye for now and thanks for commiserating with me-

Hi David-
Thank you for the great link as it did cheer me up! Nice to see the BR52 is a reality! And the Academy Lee is more than just an idle threat!

Geoff, whilst it is confusing it was done for a good reason. Most of those references are from the defunct Authentic colours range which were avail in the 70's. The range was designed to provide all the colours for a particular theme such as US marines WW2, British AFV WW2, Napoleonic Uniforms (French), Vietnam Aircraft, Luftwaffe Aircraft 39-41 etc.
From Memory HC was the US marine colours.

Each colour in the subset had a number prefixed by a two letter code. If you can find it Humbrol did an excellent colour reference/cross reference chart in the late eighties early nineties which unlocks these and other paint Mysteries

Al

Hi Folks!

I remember those color sets. When I was stationed in Germany 1974-1978, for a time that was all I could find in the local toy stores. If I remember right, you had to buy a compelete set just to get one color because you could not buy a single tin of paint.

Some of my very old history.

They're the ones Roy. Later in the 70's they released them individually but I think they died a natural death as they were to numerous to stock alongside the normal range. In the Late 80's Humbrol Paint stands labelled each item with all its alias e.g 179 + MC21 + French Artillery Green
Cheers
Al
