April 8, 1919 Army issue boots...
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

I found this picture while surfing the net. Those are some damn big boots, esspecially for 1919, when men were not of the stature they are today. "Hob Nail" boots sure don't look to comfortable. Can anyone decipher the address/unit markings? I assume that that "APO 712 Am.E.F" stands for American Expeditionary Force? The 712 would probably identify the unit/location? OK AFVNews experts, decipher!

Yep...looks like standard Army Post Office designation like we used...just fewer digits and no outbound city (like San Francisco, for most Vietnam mail).

The biggest pair of Canadian Forces boots I remember were size 15 or 16. The smallest were a custom-made pair of ankle boots for a petite female. I was standing in line to exchange something at Clothing Stores in St-Jean, Quebec and the Bin Rat ("Supply Technician") handed over these tiny little boots; no longer than a man's hand. I can't imagine how footwear that small could flex properly, or if she just rockered along.

(And zero armour content)

OK, this picture of the boots may not have much "Armor" content, but those shoes carry a lot of metal! If my eyes didn't decieve me, and I counted correctly, those size 8 boots have 13 "Hob-Nails" in each heel and 50 each in the front portion of the sole. But when I counted those size 19's, I counted 49-50 in each heel and 92 in each forward portion of the soles! Thats 284 hob-nails in that one pair of size 19's. Might not be armor, but thats still a lot of metal.
