Roy Lingle....Steve Shannon (AFV recovery spec.) reports!
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

A Steve Shannon posted the following message at the old forum. I have emailed him and told him how to find us here...and referred him to the VHPA pages with our stuff as well. Hopefully, he'll join us...I told him we'd LOVE to see his pics...seems we may have rounded up another old Blackhorse....

I HAVE QUITE A FEW PICTURES OF THE 11THH ACR AND FIDDLERS GREEN FIRE BASE AND WONDERED IF ANYONE WOULD ENJOY SEEING THEM."

Roy,
Well, as you know, Steve had "found" us...and sent or otherwise communicated that story and some others. Apparently, the M88 hit was not so bad, he was off the vehicle directing a recovery with it when a mine was struck off to one side. He got peppered with a lot of dirt and gravel on the legs but was salved up and back on duty that day. Some of the crew were lifted out by Medevac, but it was his impression that none were mortally or terribly wounded, so that's the good news.

He sent along a few pics of which I'll post a couple now and see if we can get him registered here (he's not a computer junkie like most members here...)
This is one of his pics of an AVLB that's been mine struck:

One of the engineer scraper vehicles damaged by a mine strike at FSB Fiddler's Green:

A great pic of the entrance to Fiddler's Green:

...and one of Steve's pics of a How Battery vehicle at FSB FG..."Heart Breaker". (He attibutes the pic of "Horney Bitch" at VHPA to me, but that pic was actually taken by Pat Rundle, a How Battery trooper that I knew at the Armor Board, Ft. Knox).

Hi Steve! Hi Doug! Hi Folks!

Welcome aboard Steve. Can not wait to see more of your photos of our old stomping grounds! As far as that goes, just about anything with a bit of armor or heavy metal is welcome by almost all here.

Thanks for joining in Engineer!

Sgt, Scouts Out! Smile

Ditto that. Steve (with whom I've been on the telephone a couple of time now...and hope to again) served over a couple of tours with 1st Infantry, 25th Infantry, and 11th Cav as a Maintenence/Recovery specialist...which is to say, he cleaned up our messes. But the nature of his work put him firmly in the combat operations arena as his many experiences with mines can attest (He's gonna' try to send pics of the previously mentioned M88 strike). He mentioned having pics of some M42 Dusters, quad-fifty's and other good stuff.

He's also consented to my bundling his pics in a folder to pass on to the Patton Museum with mine for the May visit (DONTOS!...and a hint to Roy...) so we can be sure the best stuff is archived somewhere. I'll try to post the best of what he sends me here, my Photobucket capacity allowing....

At any rate, if he can't join us literally here, I'll make him a 'virtual' member and pass on his many interesting items to the forum.
