2nd Inf Div M1 on the firing range
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

Hi Folks!

Found another interesting photo over at the US Army images site.

This M1 looks, to me anyway, like it might have an extended bustle rack with a lock able storage box extending off of that.

Anyone know what that might be on the rear end of the hull?

Its a bracket to mount the exhaust heat deflector shield.

The bustle rack has the EAPU and not sure what the 'thing on the right side extension is.

Thats a "1st Tank" M1 (1-71 AR) of Charlie Company. They would be located on Camp Casey as of 2002. That range complex is huge. I have had the opportunity to stand on the top, (VIP observation area) and watch in winter of 97 when VP Al Gore visited. Very impressive site to see, (the tanks firing, NOT Al Gore).

I evaluated 1st Tank back in 91 ( I was in 2nd Tank) front the tower on the hill.

Spent many a night infront of the remote controlled thermal sight in the tower, video taping gunnery 'runs', and then doing scoring, and AARs.

I always opted for night shift as there were fewer VIPs leaning over your shoulder....

...especially unwanted ignorant ones....
