Jeez, train sets...

A long, long, very long time ago...lol (Bugger). I had a tin plate clockwork train set, used to run it across the landing on rails that slotted together...Later in my, then young life I had a three rail train set (for-runner to the HO/OO guage we know today}.

As a young lad I had a 'permanent' HO/OO guage layout on a board that slid under the bed...Had various deisel and steam trains.

At that time, my parents house backed onto a railway (until Beaching axed it), used to watch the steam trains hauling passengers and freight up and down the line, later it turned into deisels and wasn't so interesting.

Quite a few years ago, a friend of mine worked at Grosmont on the North Yorks railway, it is open to the public but I had access to the shop floor where the steam trains were repaired, getting close up to 'live' engines was excellent, the smell of steam engines never leaves you once you've experienced it.

Yeah my grandpa was first a shoveller on a steamer, then became a engineer on steamers. He then switched to being an engineer on Diesel/Electrics. He has given me his HO scale set. I have a pretty big set myself, with no place to put it. Now it sits in a watertight box under the house. Sad
