Stryker Headlights position
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

Hi Folks!

Noticed this photo over at the Army Images site.
Check out the location of the headlights and turn signals.
I wonder how many times someone ran into those cages at night because they though the lights where at the edge of the vehicle?
Now that we have a kit going, need to start documenting little changes like this one.

Does anyone know what that device is at the top edge of the front slope, next to the right side of the drive's hatch? It is in line with and above the wench point at the front edge of the hull.

Wow,

those troops have it sooo good today, the have wenches on their mounts Wink Assuming you mean the winch's cable rollers up front, the doohickey in line with it is the guide for the steel cable coming from the actual winch that's mounted behind the driver's position.- this design has also been changed from the original configuration which had the cable run diagonally across the area directly in front of the driver's hatch.

Cheers,

I think he's talking about the TV camera mount next to the drivers hatch... at least i believe its a TV camera mount. Stryker Brigade is famous for being wired together & networked. The comander knows where everybody is and sees what everyody sees. I've notice that object (camera) has changed shape since Stryker first went into Iraq. Looks like the new version has been hardened to withstand combat better.

One thing I just noticed. The commander's hatch on the roof behind the driver DOESN'T open forward, so what's that big plate covering the commander's chest? It looks like all the roof hatches have got extra armor plate! One of these days (perhaps soon) A Stryker model kit will offer up some pretty interesting kit-bashing potentials.

To show I'm not totally crazy here's the old style 'thingy' next to the driver. That one ain't no cable guide, at least!

Back again. Ooops. Don't know my left from my right.
The camera's on the RIGHT side of the hatch, the cable guide's on the LEFT - and both photos show a cable running off it.

I was born confused.

Yup Mike,

you're right, the new shape of the camera threw me off, it looks like the original style cable guide they had up front.

Thanks for clearing it up

Hi, Guys:

Are those little dingleberries in M. Duplessis' photo drain plugs, or what?

They are suspended beneath the hull and look to be on chains or wires.

I've been away from Active Duty for forty-one years, but the headlights look to me like German-style Leopard I lights. What's the story?

Hi Russ! Hi Folks!

Dingleberries? I think you are correct. Looks like drain plugs with chains to prevent loss. I would think if that is so, then that driver missed something during the last service or maybe it is so rain water will drain out.

German style Leopard lights? Possible a NATO standard. It does seam like more and more vehicles are coming up with the same type of items.

Go back and look at the twin mortar systems. The CV-90 has the same track block as the Bradley and AAAV-7s are now using. Some M113s are now getting a type of track that many Europien militaries have been using for years.

My guess/2 cents,
Sgt, Scouts out!

Took me a second to realise you were talking about my attached picture!

Those dingleberries seem (to me) to be too numerous to just be hull drain plugs. Looks like several per wheel station. Can anyone think of what might need caps on the underside of wheel suspension units? Strykers have always had 'em hanging from below, back to pre-production vehicle photos.
