interesting placement of the steel plate. How sure of you that it is there to 'simulate combat weight'?

Most cases where I've seen weights added it was pretty obvious ballast bars or blocks. This almost looks like Sherman applique armor

Was it done recently? has the vehicle been on station for awhile or did it recently show up?

My suspicious mind wonders if the plates may be covering something else up. Like damage from a hit? Maybe it was decided that such a vehicle could be used for testing but obvious holes or gouges should be disguised?

Hi Folks!

I think Bob has a very good question. If that extra plate was for full up loading, it's placement seams a bit odd to me.

A plate on the side of the rear hull, but not the other side?

A plate on one edge of the front hull, but not centered or an equal weight on the other edge?

Plates under the turret? Why not just lay them on top of the turret?

Very odd, and on a 'A2' at that.

Strange - I was watching Satelite earlier this evening and noticed, mainly because of the images already shown, that they seem to be carrying this testing out in Iraq as well with at least three examples spotted with these patches in varying places - all newly painted M1A2s as well.

They must be moving the patches around to check the balance or something Wink
