BR-52 with crew accomdation tender, Jens?
The AFV ASSOCIATION was formed in 1964 to support the thoughts and research of all those interested in Armored Fighting Vehicles and related topics, such as AFV drawings. The emphasis has always been on sharing information and communicating with other members of similar interests; e.g. German armor, Japanese AFVs, or whatever.

Post subject: BR-52 with crew accomdation tender, Jens?

Hi Guys-

The BR-52 with crew accomodation in tender can be seen at this link:
www.vvt.ch/materiel/lo...221_e.html
I was considering doing the necessary conversion to add this crew accomodation to the Trumpeter kit. However, while looking at pictures of the Trumpeter BR-52 I noticed the tender is different than the one seen in the plan and photos seen at the above link. The Trumpeter tender has vertical sides and those side slant down at the front. The tender at the above link has curved sides with no downward slant. For comparison purposes, you can see the Trumpeter kit at the same link I provided in my previous post:
albums.photo.epson.com...?u=4001145
I should add that I am not certain what exactly this structure on the tender is, I am just guessing crew accomodation. What I want to know is: could this "crew accomodation" structure also appear on the Trumpeter type tender?
Lastly, to those of you who think I am overdoing it with questions and links on the BR-52, my motives are actually twofold, 1) I am trying to offer usefull info to fellow modellers as I am thinking others would want to know the answers to the same questions I am asking and would appreciate seeing the links I've found. 2) Well, obviously I want answers!
With thanks (and thanks to Jens for all his help)-

Geoff,

the crew tender was a post-war modification (also stated in the text of your first link), none were used in WWII. I'd suggest you consider investing in one of the books Chris Mrosko has shown over on ML, check Abebooks for the best prices.

I'm not too overly enthusiastic about the tender provided by Trumpeter, as the BR52 usually used the more rounded one, together with the curious smoke deflectors, Trumpeter's BR52 has a decidedly Chinese look to it.

For comparison, have a look at 2 H0 scale models by Liliput, who are known for their facetious research:

Liliput BR52 Vers 1
Liliput Br52 Vers2

Here are two photos of Reichsbahn BR50s, which illustrate the typical types of tenders employed during the war years (sorry, don't have a BR52 in my archives)

HTH

Hi Jens-
About your line: "also stated in the text of your first link" Ooooops! What can I say? Should have taken the time to read that a little more carefully. While a Chinese BR-52 would be an interesting alternative, I think I'll examine what would be needed to convert the Trumpeter tender to the type you say was more common for WW-II BR-52s. This link gives great plans for the BR-52: www.dlok.de/98.htm
Thanks for your help and sorry for asking
a question I un-knowingly already had an answer for-
