It is an issue with some games that amd have acknowledged and are working on fixing. It's only affecting some of the 64bit chips but I'm not an amd user (yet) and I don't know the core differences, so I can't tell you which ones are good.

www.buildyourown.org.uk/forums/
Register and ask in there under the cpu section.
Most of the other members use amd's so they'll know more about which cores it affects than me.
Smile

(You could always go Intel :p)

I'm not 100% certain of the following information (been a while since I read it)

Some of today's games don't like dual core...Games can run slower on a dual core cpu than a single core cpu.

AMD aknowledge the problem with some software and dual core cpu's and have released a patch to overcome the 'issue' until the software catches up with the hardware.

Running a dual core cpu in single core mode also helps.

The trouble is that most of today's software was written before dual core cpu's

There is an opinion going about that after applying the 'fix' from AMD, any problems after that are generally down to the memory.

That was one of the problems with the core. Trying to run a single-core game in dual core mode dusrupted transfers and scuh, and for some reason, it slowed down the game. Now, there is also the problem (Lego Star Wars, for example) where the dual core mode actually makes the game play twice as fast as normal. That would seriously mess up multiplayer gaming Smile
